Job Description:

This is a professional position responsible for performing technical and skilled sanitation related duties. Work involves inspecting restaurants, taverns, retail food establishments, tattoo and body piercing establishments, lodging and recreational facilities, obtaining samples for testing, investigation of citizen complaints, and assisting in Health Department programs. Work is performed under the direction of the Environmental Supervisor and/or Health Officer.

Qualifications :
Requires experience in Public Health and a bachelor's degree in Public Health or related degree; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:

Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of environmental sanitation, principles and practices of microbiology, and basic knowledge of chemistry and biological sciences.
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and the ability to apply such knowledge to varying situations.
Ability to perform thorough investigations and inspections and to analyze and interpret them effectively.
Ability to correctly interpret analysis results of samples collected.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and written, with people at various levels, both within and outside the organization.
Ability to coordinate and handle a variety of programs and activities within the time frame required.
Ability to operate computers.
Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Ability to obtain certification as a Wisconsin Lead Risk Assessor/Hazard Investigator and a Wisconsin certified Pest Control Operator.

The ideal candidate will be a credentialed REHS/RS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Register Sanitarian), a Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian (RS), or have the ability to obtain this certification within five years.
