The PC Technician II role is responsible for support and maintenance of in-house computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes tracking inventory, installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all user hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. This person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required. In certain circumstances, the PC Technician II must be able to work independently with limited supervision. This role will be an integral part of the I.T. Service Team, providing backup coverage for the Help Desk and regular rotating after hours on-call support.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with end users to identify and deliver required PC service levels.
  • Liaise with, and provide onsite instruction and support to end users and staff on computer operation and other issues.
  • Collaborate with Help Desk to create support documents and improve service standards.
  • Gain understanding of common Help Desk tasks and responsibilities to fulfill support needs as required.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, networked peripheral devices, and networking hardware products. *
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot associated end user workstation software and networking software products. *
  • Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of routine PC problems for a variety of end users, and recommend & implement corrective hardware solutions, including off-site repair as needed. *
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding PC and/or hardware problems. *
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all I.T. end user equipment.
  • Accurately document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal.
  • Construct, install, and test custom scripted configurations and automated software deployments based on various applications and operating systems.
  • Conduct research on computer products in support of PC procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend hardware products for purchase.
  • Schedule, and perform PC, hardware and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Provide information for meeting future computer hardware needs.
  • Support development and implementation of new computer projects and new hardware installations.
  • If necessary, liaise with third-party support and PC equipment vendors.
  • Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plan executables, and respond to crises in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Work autonomously and independently
  • Limited travel to remote Air Wisconsin facilities as backup or member of project team as required.
  • High degree of creativity and latitude is required
  • Provide technical guidance for Help Desk and I.T. dept. staff.
  • Develops and maintains best practices and ensures adherence to these practices by others
  • Maintains and proactively supports a Life Cycle process for PC equipment and peripherals.
  • Attendance is considered an essential responsibility. *

  • Analyze and monitor desktop PC software and license deployment counts
    Education/Experience
    • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 4 years equivalent work experience.
    • Technical knowledge of network and PC hardware, including Windows Desktop.
    • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
    • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
    • Fundamental knowledge of Windows scripting and automated application deployment.
    • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
    • Ability to conduct research into PC issues and products as required.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
    • Self-motivated and easily directed.
    • Keen attention to detail.
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
