Job Description:
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICSThis position is responsible for
developing, writing, and editing material for reports, manuals,
briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related
technical and administrative publications. Position is responsible
to collect information from the research & development, design,
manufacturing, and technical service departments. Must be able to
prepare manuals and other materials dealing with the training,
installation, operation, maintenance and/or repair products for
customers, distributors, dealers and/or the company's own service
personnel. After completion, manuals will be combined with other
technical information and packed to ship with the equipment. This
is an exempt position that may require in excess of a 40-hour week
in order to effectively carry out the listed job duties. Some
travel may be required.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Compiles, writes, edits, illustrates, and formats technical
information to produce operation, training, maintenance, and parts
manuals for all product lines. Converts technical information into
electronic or hard copy format, as specified by customers.
- Determines information needed from Engineering for the
technical documents. Then, communicates with Engineering to develop
a plan to meet those needs. Monitors and communicates progress of
the manual as it is prepared, to ensure timely completion and
delivery of the manual in the customer's preferred format.
- Observes manufacturing activities to determine operating
procedure and detail. Interviews production, service, and
engineering personnel to become familiar with product technologies
and production methods.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists,
specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate
technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and
detail.
- Reads journals, reports and other technical materials. Reviews
OEM publications and trade catalogs,drawings and other data
relative to safe operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
Incorporates above information as needed into company written
documentation.
- Supports Service Technicians and Call Center Personnel.
Assembles and ensures customer owners' manuals are easily
accessible. Trains new personnel on manual content and
accessibility. Provides information via various medium to relevant
company employees. Creates and maintains other technical manuals
and information necessary for Service Technicians, Call Center and
other employees.
- Reviews materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope,
format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. Maintains
records and files of work and revisions.
- Investigates, evaluates, and recommends competitive translation
means and services, to prepare manuals for use in international
markets.OUALIFICATIONS REOUIREDAn Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
in media production, communications, journalism, mechanical design,
or equivalent experience or training in engineering, sales or
technical service is required, plus five years technical writing
experience. Mechanical aptitude with an extensive working knowledge
of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, video equipment
and photography essential. Position requires extensive technical
writing background with good writing skills. Must understand and
read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. Must be
proficient in related publishing software.MON-Fri, 8:00am to
